Georgy Toloraya: The Russkiy Mir Foundation Helps “Russian Resurrection”

14.09.2012

The IX Film Festival “Russian Resurrection” started in Australia on August 30 and will last until September 26. This is one of the most impressive foreign viewings of Russian cinema. The Russkiy Mir Foundation provides the festival with financial support. We present to our readers the following interview with Georgy Toloraya, head of the Foundation’s regional programs division.

– You’re a frequent guest to Australia. What’s on the agenda for your current visit?

– I’m visiting in order to greet the film festival “Russian Resurrection”. As far as I know, this is the largest regular event representing Russia in Australia. Therefore, The Russkiy Mir Foundation supports the festival, which not only promotes Russian culture and society, but also Russian civilization. This isn’t my first time at the festival, and I see that it’s becoming more and more impressive. This points to an increase in interest in Russia not only among fellow Russians, but also among Australians.

– What other projects relating to Australia is the Russkiy Mir Foundation leading?

– Unfortunately, recently it has been difficult to find any kind of opportunities. We tried to open a Russian center at the University of Queensland, but the Australian side proved not yet ready for this. We’re working on opening new Russkiy Mir Cabinets; one is already operating in Melbourne, and we’re also planning talks with Melbourne University. Going forward, we hope that the Russkiy Mir Foundation will be able to help strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
