The Russian two-time Olympic champion, world record holder in the pole vault, Elena Isimbayeva was recognized as the Best Female Athlete of the Decade by the American sports journal Track and Field News, reports ITAR-TASS.

The second place honors were bestowed upon the runner Tirunesh Dibaba from Ethiopia. The third place went to the 2004 Olympic champion and three-time world champion in the heptathlon, Karolina Kluft from Sweden. The fourth place went to another Russian athlete - Tatiana Lebedeva (long jump and triple jump events), the long jump gold medalist in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
