Cross Year “Russia – Greece” to be Conducted in 2014

The Year of Greece in Russia and the Year of Russia in Greece will be held in 2014, Kultura television channel reports. This news was announced February 16 by Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yeoryios Papandreou at a meeting with the State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov.

According to Papandreou, our countries “have similar traditions, culture and history,” and his current visit “is just another step forward".

Russia and Greece are planning to approve and sign a program of cultural and scientific cooperation for 2010-2012. The year 2014 will be Greece’s Year in Russia and Russia’s Year in Greece, the year of the Sochi Olympics, and the year when Greece will preside in the European Union.Boris Gryzlov noted that Russia is satisfied with its cooperation with Greece not only in South-Eastern Europe, but also on the European continent. “We are advancing successfully to the level of strategic partnership,” he added.

These announcements were made in the frame of the official visit of Yeoryios Papandreou to Russia.
