Russian and Cuban Ballet Stars Give Joint Performance in Havana

15.02.2010

Stars of the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet have danced in Havana for the first time in thirty years, reports RIA Novosti. The concert, which took place at Karl Marx Theater, was a great success.

On Saturday night six members of the Bolshoi Ballet, including Anna Antonicheva danced in Cuba, alternating performances with the Cuban National Ballet at the Karl Marx Theater. The first performance on the Bolshoi Theatre in Cuba took place in 1960 at the opening of the first International Havana Ballet festival, and the last performance – in 1980.

The performance was a part of the 19th Havana International Book Fair, where Russia participated as an honored guest. In the frame of the fair the Russkiy Mir Foundation opened the Russian Center at Jose Marti National Library, which became the first venue of the kind in Latin America.
