Metropolitan Hilarion Stresses Importance of Setting up Multipolar World

09.04.2010

The Russian Church sees a role for religious organizations in building a multipolar world.

"I believe it's important to revise the paradigm that secures peaceful co-existence of nations. We need to oppose usurpation of peace-making by certain geopolitical power centers," head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk said at the Easter reception given by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the Metropolitan, to build the world by oneself "means to follow the way of constant clashes and conflicts," thus "all parties concerned including traditional religious communities should have equal access" to the process of establishing neighborly relations and open and fruitful dialogues among various communities.

Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said that the Foreign Ministry together with the Russian Church will take efforts to develop inter-religious and inter-confessional dialogue, in particular to promote Patriarch Kirill's initiative to set up the High Level Group on inter-religious dialogue with the UNESCO general director.
