Andrey Khrzhanovsky’s semifictionalised biography of Nobel prize-winning poet Josef Brodsky called A Room and a Half is an imaginative portrait not only of a great writer but also of the post-Second World War cultural world of the Soviet Union. Using live-action, documentary and archive footage as well as several types of animation and surrealist flights of fancy.  The film was named Film of the Year at the 2010 Nika Awards, the official ceremony of which took place March 31 in Moscow.

The award for best actress went to Svetlana Kryuchkova for her role as the grandmother in the film Bury Me Behind the Molding.  The award for best supporting actress went to Maria Shukshina, for her role as the mother in the same film.

The Nika for best actor was split among two actors – Oleg Yankovsky and Vladimir Ilin – while the award for best supporting actor was split among three – Maxim Sukhanov, Sergei Dreiden and Roman Madyanov.
