Government of Russia Has Established Grants for Scientific Research

The Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, held a meeting on April 8 in Novosibirsk – about the modernization of education, reports ITAR-TASS.

Following the meeting, Mr. Putin emphasized that the government has established grants for scientists – these grants are for 150 million rubles each and are directed to finance scientific research.

In his opinion, “This money will help attract top-line experts to work at Russian universities, including Russian nationals which are engaged in research work in other countries”. The Prime minister explains that the grants will go to scientists that that can present perspective and interesting projects, contributing to Russian scientific and economic progress. An expert council, composed of leading Russian scientists, will determine which projects are worthy of support.

“I have just signed the relevant Government Executive Order on the establishment of such a council. The total amount allocated to this program is 12 billion rubles,” declared the Prime Minister.
Ina addition, during the next three years the Government of the Russian Federation will allocate 8 billion rubles for development of innovative structures to institutions of higher learning.

The head of government also believes that, “It is important to direct the scientific activities of Russian universities toward the development of technologies that are required by the real sectors of the economy, to stimulate business and cooperation among higher educational institutions.”

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, arrived in Novosibirsk on April 8 for a two-day working trip.
