International Conference “Anna Akhmatova and Nikolai Gumilyov in the Context of Russian Culture” Takes Place in Bezhetsk

25.05.2009

On May 22, a cultural program that was held as part of the international conference “Anna Akhmatova and Nikolai Gumilyov in the Context of Russian Culture” took place in Bezhetsk (Tver Region). The conference was supported by a grant from the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

Approximately fifty participants of the forum gathered spontaneously to visit the monuments to Akhmatova and Gumilyov as a way of expressing their feelings for the poets, as well as to read their poems.

The participants then took part in a creative meeting with teachers and students from a local middle school named in honor of Gumilyov. At the meeting, a protocol was signed, which will establish the Tver Center for Russian Language and Culture at the school.
