Foundation’s First Russian Center in Germany Opens in Dresden

The Deutsch-Russische Kulturinstitut (German-Russian Institute of Culture) has functioned since 1993, when it was formed from a Russian reading club.  The organizations aim is to facilitate cultural dialog between Russia and Germany, whose cultural contacts go back 300 years to the times of Peter the Great. The Institute’s library, which was named in honor of Fedor Dostoevsky, contains over 16,000 books in the Russian language.

On December 19, an agreement was signed opening a Russian Center of the Russkiy Mir Foundation at the Institute.  The Russian Center provides the right conditions for studying the Russian language, becoming acquainted with Russian history, culture, arts, traditions and modern life in Russia.

The Russian Center itself holds over 1000 books and is equipped with modern media and computer infrastructure to assist visitor in studying Russian language and culture.  The center also has a collection of 800 Russian and Soviet classic films.  The chairman of the Institute Wolfgang Sch
