Presentation of Documentary Great European War: 1914-1919. Baltic Region

On December 10, 2014, the documentary by Oleg Besedin Great European War: 1914-1919. Baltic Region was presented in the Tallinn Center of Russian Culture, as part of the joint project of Russkiy Dom and AB Meedia, titled “Great and Forgotten: First World War and Estonia, Heroes and Events.

The event was opened by board chairman of Russkiy Dom Evgeny Tomberg while the welcome address was delivered by Minister Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Estonia S.B. Makarenko. Retired Rear Admiral of the Russian Navy I.I. Merkulov called upon those present not to forget the past and learn on past mistakes.

The short precursory program was concluded by documentary director Oleg Besedin, who thanked all who got involved in making this film and wished everybody pleasant viewing.

Then the full-length documentary was demonstrated. The historical period of 1914-1918 was reviewed from many angles, including the background, pretexts and possible reasons for WWI, events and consequences of the war, horrific losses, the heroism of soldiers, officers and civilians, the use of new armaments, poison gases, economic collapse, Civil War – these are just several themes reflected in the documentary.

A short discussion took place after the documentary demonstration. Great European War: 1914-1919. The Baltic Region will be shown on TVN in January 2015.
