Another Russian Cultural Center Opens in Moldova

02.03.2015

On February 25 in the Moldovan town of Taraclia the cultural education center “Zhivoe Slovo” (Living Word) opened at the Ivan Vazov Theoretical Lyceum with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The main objectives of the center are the popularization of Russian language and culture as important elements of world civilization, support of programs for study of the Russian language abroad and development of intercultural dialogue.

It was decided that the first event to be held at the center would be a roundtable on “Russian Language as a Factor in the Preservation of a Unified Orthodox Space”. The participants of the discussion included representatives of the local administration, teachers of the schools in the Taraclia region, representatives from the student body and the parents association of the lyceum.

The resolution adopted by the participants of the roundtable states the need to apply efforts to support the promotion of the Russian language as the language of inter-ethnic communication and the importance of preserving a common cultural, economic and religious (Orthodox) space.

During the roundtable and afterward the pupils, parents and teachers noted the significance of the opening of the Russian cultural center at the Russian lyceum in a district where there is a high concentration of national minorities of Moldova – Bulgarians, Russians, Ukrainians, Gagauz and Roma.
