Free Russian Language Courses Begin in Tbilisi

The Union of Russian Youth of Georgia with financial support from the Russkiy Mir Foundation is holding the first series of Russian language courses for the public. The participants of the courses include students of various universities, practicing doctors and lawyers, workers of the banking sector, journalists of leading media, civil servants and representatives of the business community. This series of course will last four months.

This is the third year that the courses are being held, and they are highly popular among youth of Georgia. The courses, which are completely free of charge, allow the students to not only starting learning Russian from scratch but also to improve their conversational speech and writing in the more advanced groups. The courses were initially planned to accept 180 students, but they were then enlarged to accommodate 200 learners after such a large number of people expressed their desire to participate. 

People continue to send in applications for the next series of Russian language courses. The established quota has already been exceeded by than 200 applications. Moreover, participants of previous courses have expressed their desire to attend courses which are lengthier and would provide more in-depth coverage of Russian literature, history and culture.
