New Facts about Pyotr Yershov Uncovered

03.12.2015

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Yershov, the author of The Little Humpbacked Horse, the Russkiy Mir Foundation supported the publication of a most interesting book, P. P. Yershov. Chronicle of His Life and Works (1815–1869).

The book was compiled by Tatiana Savchenkova, famous Russian expert on Yershov’s biography and writings, who is also an employee of the Pyotr Yershov Ishim State Pedagogical Institute.

Tatiana Savchenkova’s work is based on the new Yershov-related materials she found during her long-term research in the state and private archives. The chronicle is a step toward creating the writer’s scientific biography and compiling his complete works. The book contains a lot of information valuable to all researchers of Siberian literature and culture that still has many ‘blind spots.’

The book includes all of Yershov’s known letters, including ones that have never been published, as well as his essays with unedited and previously unpublished poems. A special section lists all persons mentioned in the volume.
