'Derbent: 2,000 Years at a Crossroads of Cultures' Project to Be Continued

12.01.2016

Khasavyurt Central Library experts will continue working on the project “Derbent: 2,000 Years at a Crossroads of Cultures” initiated in 2015 with support from the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The international event brought together 36 public associations, libraries and educational institutions from 15 foreign countries and 15 Russian regions. The project included readings, scientific conferences, literary evenings, games and other educational initiatives for children and young adults. The materials developed by the project’s participants became a very popular online study guide. In addition to photo and video reports, scripts for various celebratory events have proved to be quite popular, as they can be used by educational and cultural institutions in Russia and the former Soviet Union.

The Ziyavudin Magomedov Charitable Foundation offered to develop a Derbent-themed cultural and educational program for Dagestan schoolchildren based on the most interesting ideas for the Derbent project. After evaluating the Khasavyurt Central Library’s application, the Peri Foundation’s management decided to fund an intellectual entertainment series “Derbent in Folklore and Arts” that will take place at libraries in Derbent, Izberbash, Kaspiysk, Makhachkala and Khasavyurt in January-February 2016.

Young Dagestan students will have a chance to go on a tour of one of the world’s most ancient cities, whose anniversary will be celebrated for several years.
