New Issue of Russian History Magazine Released in Lithuania

26.01.2016

The association of Russian school teachers of Lithuania has released the fifth issue of the Rodnoi Istorii Stranitsy (The Pages of Russian History) magazine with support from the Russkiy Mir Foundation. The new issue of the magazine for children and youth is dedicated to anniversaries and important dates in Russian history and culture to be celebrated in 2016. The magazine was founded in 2012 with the purpose of filling the gaps in children’s historical education. About 2,000 students of Russian schools in Lithuania will receive the new issue.

This year’s issue has a subheading: “Reading for your heart and mind.” It contains materials devoted to the anniversaries of eminent Russian historians—the 200th anniversary of Nikolai Karamzin and the 175th anniversary of Vasily Klyuchevsky—with colorful reproductions of wonderful Russian paintings celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Tretyakov Gallery. The issue includes an article on the first professional Russian theater founded 260 years ago and on the great Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. Another article tells the story of the Russian traveler Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay whose 170th anniversary also comes this year.

The year of 2016 will also see anniversaries of Russian writers, which is why the magazine contains articles on Dal, Lermontov, Dostoyevsky, Gumilyov, Bulgakov and Akhmatova.

Every issue of the magazine has been edited by educator and philosopher Andrei Fomin.

All copies of the new issue will be presented to the students of Russian schools and Sunday schools under Orthodox churches in Lithuania—everyone who should know Russian history and feels close to the Russian culture.
