First Stage of the 3rd Russian Language Olympiad in Israel

The All-Israeli Olympiad of the Russian Language held among school students with support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation started in Israel on March,1.

The Olympiad had been arranged by the Israeli Support Center For Children's Art and the Rossotrudnichestvo representational office in Israel.

School students from public schools and Russian Language evening schools as well as students from cultural and education centers took part in it.

The first stage of the Olympiad had already been held in the south and north of Israel in Beer-Sheva, Jerusalem, Haifa, Nesher, Yokneam, Gertslia, and Or Akiva. Young Israelites from Tel-Aviv, Netaniya, Bat-Yam, Holon and some other towns of Central Israeli had written their contest papers at the Russian Cultural Center.

The Olympiad is getting more and more popular with every passing year. It sparks interest among school children, their teachers and parents, which proves their will to preserve the Russian language among the young generation of Russian-speaking Israelites. Over 800 schoolchildren aged 6-18 took part in the first stage of the contest.

The final stage of the Olympiad is to be held at the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv on March, 22.
