Belgium Hosts the Gala of Russian Heritage Awards

15.03.2016

The 5th International awards “Gala of Russian Heritage” took place on 11 March 2016 at the Chateau du Lac Hotel in Genval, Belgium. The Russkiy Mir Foundation supported the organization of the charity event.

The awards were established by the International Pushkin Foundation lead by its President Maria-Madlen Durnovo-Pushkina and Vice-President Alexander Pushkin, direct descendants of the poet living in Brussels. The event gathered around 240 guests – diplomats, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, European Commission employees, representatives of the Russian nobility and the Russian expat community, members of the Foundation and philanthropists.

The program started with a cocktail reception where everyone was able to make a photo with the members of the Pushkin family. The guests had a unique opportunity to examine two exhibitions – Russian icons “Russia’s Orthodox Treasures” and photography by Yevgeny Yevtyukhov “My friends, how beautiful our union is!” devoted to the classic music.

Maria-Madlen Durnovo and Alexander Romanov, the Ambassador of Russia in Belgium, made a speech in the beginning of the evening.

The concert part of the evening was dedicated to Tchaikovsky. Pianist Maxim Kulagin together with a soprano Tatiana Trenogina performed works by the great Russian composer. The guests were also shown a documentary about the Foundation and its charity work – support of the Children’s department at the Petrov research institute of oncology in St Petersburg.

The awards were presented after the concert. The first one, “For the development of cooperation with Russia”, went to the Ambassador Alexander Romanov; the second – was given to Anna Godar, professional translator and Chief of the Russian language department at University of Mons, for “preserving Russian culture and promoting the Russian language abroad”. The third award was given to Jean-Marie Joris, a businessman from Mons, who has financially supported the Foundation throughout the years.

After the ceremony, everyone was invited to a dinner where the guests saw a performance of a folk band “Zolotoy Plyos”. A charity lottery was part of the event as well; it took place right after the dinner. All funds will be used for buying the equipment needed for the cancer patients..
