Winners of the III Russian Language Olympiad Awarded in Tel Aviv

07.04.2016

On 6 April, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the III Russian language Olympiad for school students organized by Israel center for children’s crafts and Russian cultural center in Tel Aviv supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation took place at the center’s venue.

The Olympiad gathered more than 800 students aged 7-18 years; they learn Russian at school, Russian-speaking culture and education centers, state evening schools in various Israeli cities, or attend RCC Russian language courses.

The ceremony saw Svetlana Scherbakova, coordinator of the Russkiy Mir Foundation programs, Natalya Yakimchuk, head of the RCC, Elion Vilenchik, director of the Israel center for children’s crafts, and Irina Deych. Of course, the ceremony attracted Olympiad’s winners, their parents and teachers.

Russian language teachers in Israel mark the fact that this event promotes the language and improves motivation of the young people to learn it.

Fifty-three winners in four age groups received medals, diplomas and prizes. The Grand prize of the Olympiad – a trip to International workshop camp to study Russian and history and culture Russia – went to Shelly Mogilevskaya, 14.

Four other winners – Natalya Shpolyanskaya, 17, Michal Rabinovich, 15, Sonya Purinson, 15, and Liel Wolf, 14, – will visit Russia in August 2016; the young people will take part in a Rossotrudnichestvo project named “Hello, Russia!”

Fifty Russian language teachers, who trained their students, received diplomas and prizes, as well. Children group “Flowers of Ashdod” performed at the ceremony.
