The Tretyakov Gallery is preparing to present the exhibition The Masterpieces of Byzantine. The exhibition will open it's doors to the viewers on February, 8.
The exhibition will include around twenty masterpieces from Byzantine dated from the 10th to 12th centuries. All the art pieces from private and museum collections have been transported from Greece.

Among the most treasured possessions are the silver cross, St. George the Great Martyr wooden panel, Resurrection of Lazarus icons, Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, John the Baptist Angel of the Desert, the Embroidered Cover for the Blessed Sacraments, and two Gospel books from the 13th and beginning of the 14th centuries.

This exhibition will become the part of a cross-year program for Russia and Greece. A reminder: in August 2016, the Tretyakov Gallery brought to Athens an exhibition of Russian Icons After the Fall of Constantinople, that included around 20 icons. Earlier, the famous Andrei Rublev icon was presented in the capital of Greece. A one-piece exhibition was timed to coincide with the visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
