Around eight thousands of Russians chose the Far East as their permanent residency in 2016, RIA Novosti informs. A major part of them, which is about five thousand people, became participants of the Assisted Voluntary Return programme. All the rest is their relatives. 3, 5 thousand expats and their families plan to join them at the Far East this year.

The regional administration has advised that around fifty percent of the emigrants are Ukrainians, citizens of Tajikistan account for 20 percent and Armenians make 10 percent.

A complex of support measures have been worked out for the emigrants. In particular, the programme participants have a right to acquire Russian citizenship following a simplified procedure. Besides, additional start-up financial resources are stipulated for each member of the family. Compatriots who made a decision to come back to their native country may receive compensation for relocation and transport of the luggage to a new place of residency. In case they do not have a job, they will get an unemployment benefit.
