Russia celebrates Cosmonautics Day

Yuri Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Center Russia celebrates the Cosmonautics Day today. The first manned space flight took place fifty-six years ago on April 12 by Russian Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. At present, our country occupies one of the leading positions in the space industry. The fourth part of the world space market belongs to Russia, RIA Novosti informs.

Around thirty space launches are scheduled this year. According to the Roscosmos Head Igor Komarov, two of these launches should happen at the new Western Launch Site. New generation Federation spacecraft is planned to start from this launch site in 2021.

Besides, new cosmonauts’ recruitment process began a month ago. This is the second open recruitment session in the history of national cosmonautics where anybody can apply. Applications will be accepted until the middle of summer. Not more than seven people are planned to be recruited.

New cosmonauts will be in charge of Federation space ship and work according to programme of the International space station. They will also become first Russians to fly to the Moon.

Russian president Vladimir Putin will make a speech today at gala evening devoted to the holiday. Time of the First movie premiere is scheduled at this evening. The Kremlin Palace, Baikonur and Plesetsk will watch this movie. It is worth reminding that the film narrates a story of Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyaev on board of Voskhod-2 space ship.
