UN special representative highly evaluates Russia’s efforts on observing truce in Syria

pixabay.com Special Representative of the Secretary General for Syrian reconciliation Staffan de Mistura highly evaluated Moscow’s activities keeping the ceasefire regime in the country. He mentioned this during his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports.

Moreover, he praised Russia’s actions regarding implementation of de-escalation zones’ memorandum in Syria. According to Mistura, Geneva negotiations and talks in Astana complement each other.

It should be reminded that the above-mentioned memorandum was signed by the representatives of guarantor countries – Russia, Iran and Turkey, on May 4 in Astana. Russia proposed to create four de-escalation zones with safety lines on their borders to prevent direct firefighting in Syria. Moscow also made a proposition to organize block posts for civil population and delivery of humanitarian aids. Besides, it was offered to establish monitoring centers for truce observation. The draft prepared by the Russian Federation stipulates sending representatives of the guarantor countries for monitoring the ceasefire regime.

Russian Foreign Ministry and UN Special Representative agreed on reinforcing and securing positive results reached at the Geneva talks.
