Foreign Ministry of Russian Federation
14th Conference of partner cities of Russia and Germany opens today on June 28, as per RIA Novosti. More than 600 delegates from dozens of German and Russian cities are taking part in it. The guests were welcomed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel.

It is planned to discuss important economic, political and cultural questions of the bilateral agenda within two days of the conference.

Organizers of the event expressed hope that the conference would give an impulse to the collaboration of Russian regions and cities to help overcome the crisis in relations between Russia and the European Union in future.

At present, there are about one hundred partner cities which concluded agreements on cooperation and cultural exchange.

Similar conferences have been conducted for about thirty years, once in two years – in Russia and in Germany by turns. The previous meeting was held in Karlsruhe, which is a partner city of Krasnodar.
