Dostoevsky Day celebrated in St. Petersburg

Dostoevsky Day was celebrated for the 8th time last weekend in St. Petersburg. This time was chosen because the action of Crime and Punishment novel starts exactly on July, 1. Around twenty cultural centers, libraries and museums have united to conduct this festival. Because of the coinciding event of 2018 FIFA World Cup, the major activities were moved from Dostoevsky Museum area to the Pioneer Square.

So-called Day Do has started with parade of mascot dolls depicting characters from writer's novels. The premier of the play Dostoevsky in Color by FMD Theater gathered many people interested in 19th century fashion. OddDance Theatre has presented Dostoevsky's Phantasmagoria contemporary movement performance.

There were also thematic tours in Mikhailovsky Castle where Nikolaevsky Engineering School, Dostoevsky's alma mater, used to be located.

The Lenin Library has presented Friday with Dostoevsky event. It included the literature action Dostoevsky Aloud, Raskolnikov’s Routes quiz, and a lecture on Crime and Punishment.
