St. Petersburg receives touristic Oscars

St. Petersburg receives prestigious World Travel Awards as “The Best European Destination,” RIA Novosti reports. It is considered the Oscars of the tourism sector. The prize is presented for more than 20 years. 

The award ceremony will take place in the second largest Russian city for the first time. Georgy Poltavchenko has expressed the gratitude to the World Travel Awards for the high estimation of the city's potential. According to him, tourism is great media of communication between peoples of different countries. The world is becoming brighter and kinder thanks to tourism. 

It is not the first touristic prize St. Petersburg is marked with. 

It's worth mentioning that St. Petersburg was already recognized as the “Best Touristic and Cultural Destination” by World Travel Awards last year. It was granted with the “Best European Destination” award a year earlier.
