Fist photos of Russian Empire in color exhibited in Dresden

Presidential library (Saint Petersburg) has launched an exhibition Expanses of Russia in Color Photography by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky in Dresden at Russian Center of German-Russian Institute of Culture – its old partner. The exhibited items will be displayed until January 15, 2018.

Consul General of Russia in Leipzig Andrey Yurievich Dronov talked about a creative path of the legendary Russian engineer, Mendeleev’s student with the guests of our Institute.

A round table "Photo glance at Russia: from the ancient times until now" in a format of video call Dresden – Saint Petersburg was organized, where topical questions about preservation of historical and contemporary photography heritage of Russia and Germany were touched upon.

About forty works by the founder of the color photography, a well-known chemist Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky were selected and prepared from the archives of the Presidential Library for this exposition.

The library funds comprise about two thousand digitalized photos made by him. At present, this is the largest collection of Prokudin-Gosky works in Russia.
