Russian presidential elections to be held on March 18

Federation Council’s websiteMembers of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament have supported appointment of presidential elections for the date of 18 March, 2018, TASS reports.

According to senator Andrei Klishas, the law stipulates the voting to be conducted on the second Sunday of the month when the voting for the previous elections was held. At this, in case there is a day off on this week, elections will be shifted for the following week.

The resolution of the Federation Council is to be published at the beginning of next week on 18 December. The election campaign will start from this day on.

The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation has advised that the document can be published in a printed or electronic version. The resolution will be published in the Russian Gazeta, Parliament Gazeta as well as on the website of the legal information.

Currently, twenty-three people claimed their intention to run for the President’s office. This is not a final figure and it will be corrected in the nearest future.

The head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova has commented that extensive campaign informing Russians about the elections starts on Monday. She explained that the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation prepared a common conception and informational agenda. Voting stations will be opened twenty days before the elections. Members of commissions at places should contact everybody to advise all necessary information.
