A campaign in favour of the education in the Russian language will take place next Saturday, on February 24, in Latvia. The event will coincide with the 229th anniversary of inauguration of the first Russian school in Latvia, Sputnik informs.

The activists chose a significant place for their meeting – they will meet next to the monument in honor of the poet, social and political figure of the 20th century Rainis who used to say that Latvia is for everybody, not only for the Latvians. The riot participants are going to call all Russian-language community members of the country for joining, otherwise Russian children will have to study at schools in a foreign language.

Despite active support of the Russian schools, the Latvian Parliament continues annihilation of the education in the Russian language in Latvia. The plan is to leave only Latvian schools starting 2019. This decision caused mass riots and protest campaigns of parents and teachers.
