Pancakes, dressed herring (so-called “herring under a fur coat”), Russian dumplings – all these Russian cuisine dishes were very much appreciated by Uganda inhabitants. In the interview to The Moscow House of Compatriots the head of Russian Women Association Rosinka Olga Atubo elaborated on the national cultures' admixture.

Olga AtuboOlga moved to the East-central African country Uganda on 2006. She started treating locals with the national Russian cuisine, that was very much appreciated. According to Olga there are significant crossings between Russian and Ugandan traditional food: meat, fish, vegetables. Instead of mashed potatoes Ugandans eat mashed banana and sweet potatoes. Locals were amused by Russian spices since they don't use them often during food preparation.

Russian compatriots gather not only in the frames of the Russian Cuisine Club meetings. Russian diaspora conducts various events for kids and adults, organizes musical gatherings and Soviet films' screenings.

At this time members of the Club are working on creating a a full-fledged kids club to share Russian culture knowledge with the growing generation.

Olga Atubo has added that Ugandans are very friendly towards Russians. Many locals want to learn Russian language.
