International conference on Soviet monuments protection held in Belgrade

The 1st International conference dedicated to protection of the Soviet soldiers’ monuments perished on the European territories during the WWII was held in Belgrade. The mission of the meeting was setting up an international organization monitoring the condition of the monuments to Soviet soldiers, according to TASS.

Activists from the European Voluntary organizations visited several monuments to the warriors taking part in liberation of Europe from the fascist Germany. On Thursday, they organized a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths to the graves of the soldiers in Belgrade who were buried in the Liberators’ Park. Volunteers have also attended the mass grave at the Avala Mountain of our officers who died in 1964 having come to the Serbian capital to celebrate its liberation from the fascist invaders. The day completed with a visit to the memorial dedicated to the bombings of Yugoslavia.

Conference organizers note that it is extremely important to preserve history in the memory of the contemporaries, interact with organizations dealing with care and protection of the monuments all over the world and establishing the International Association, which could monitor the condition of the military historical memorials.

Representatives of Russia, Austria, Bulgaria, Poland, The Baltic States, Romania and France took part in the conference.
