Russian Orthodox church plans to assist in development of the religious tourism in Jordan, RIA Novosti informs. This question was a center of discussion at the meeting between the head of department for external chruch relations of Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion with Ambassador of Jordon to Moscow Amjad Adailah held on April 29.
They discussed extension of interaction in the field of tourism and visits to tourist historical places and pilgrimage to Christian relics.
In opinion of Metropolitan Hilarion, King Abdullah II of Jordan contributed a lot to protection of Christian presence at the Middle East. Metropolitan expressed his gratitude for King's efforts directed at support of peace and intercultural dialogue in the region.
Representative of the Russian church has said that the Russian Orthodox Church is ready to assist in arranging touristic visits of the Christians to Al-Maghtas from our country. The parties have also discussed an opportunity to create the documentary about the Holy places of Jordan.
Al-Maghtas is a holy place in Jordan for the Christians and the third most popular place for pilgrims after the Holy Sepultchre and the Church of the Nativity associated with Jesus Christ's crucifixion.
