Lavrov: Russia advocates lifting sanctions against North Korea and phased talks

Moscow will definitely support agreements on North Korea meeting interests of the both parties, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov. He made this statement after completion of the talks with his North Korean counterpart Li Yon-ho. Their meeting took place the day before during the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to Pyongyang, TASS informs. ‘

Sergei Lavrov has explained that when the reached agreements are considered by the international community, the UN Security Council will advocate for these or those initiatives. Russia will support only those agreements, which would meet the interests of all involved parties, including the North Korean ones.

Russian Minister came to North Korea two weeks before meeting the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump. It was appointed for June 12. Besides, there is significant progress in relations between South Korea and North Korea: the heads of these states met already twice.

At this, Sergei Lavrov advised before that the Korean Peninsula’s crisis could be resolved by way of talks with participation  of Moscow, Beijing, Poyngyang, Seoul, Washington and Tokyo. Besides, Russian Foreign Minister is sure that a solution to the nuclear crisis cannot be found until anti-North Korean sanctions are lifted.
