Totma acknowledged the Most Beautiful Small Town of the Country

Kultinfo News Agency informs that Totma, Vologda region, has been added to the list of Beautiful Villages and Small Towns of Russia Association. The association unites small localities with unique historical, cultural, and natural heritage. Totma will become the first small town to join it.

The town is widely known for its sights. Wooden architecture monuments, churches built in Totma Baroque style are preserved in Totma. Moreover, hundreds years ago local sailors and merchants became famous as they went overseas and established first settlements in California. It's Totemsky merchant who is considered Fort Ross founder. 

The town administration applied for membership in the association a year ago. After that the experts who assessed the town's historical appearance preservation visited the town. 

New status gives a chance to increase the attractiveness of the town for tourists, improve the working conditions for small businesses.

Villages of Arkhangelsk, Novgorod, Pskov, and Yaroslavl regions, the Republics of Buryatia and of Karelia are the association members. Now Totma may apply for membership in The Most Beautiful Villages and Towns of the Planet Federation.
