Istanbul summit backs Syria's territorial integrity

The four-party summit held on October 27 in Istanbul, confirmed that all parties support the political and diplomatic method of Syrian problem resolution.

Russian, Turkish, French and German leaders - Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel, attended the high-level meeting. The dialogue in this format was held for the first time, TASS reports.

The summit resulted in a joint statement. According to the Russian leader, it corresponds to the general intension for the cooperation development aimed at normalizing the situation in Syria since the beginning of the inter-Syrian dialogue and the implementation of the necessary reforms.

The Russian President notes that the work should comply with the resolution of the UN Security Council and the principles of unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria. He called the organization of the work of Syria's constitutional committee one of the key tasks. As a result, the Syrians themselves will determine the fate of the country and its leaders, the Russian leader adds.

The four leaders supported a humanitarian aid increase to the Syrians including the restoration of infrastructure destroyed during the hostilities. In addition, it is necessary to intensify the process of returning refugees to their homeland. The Turkish President recalled that it should be voluntary, comply with international law and be coordinated by the UN.

Much attention was paid to the situation in the Idlib province where impressive forces of terrorists gathered.

According to Russkiy Mir, Moscow and Ankara agreed to create a demilitarized zone in Idlib along the contact line of the Syrian Government troops and the armed opposition. This agreement was the main outcome of the meeting of the Russian and Turkish presidents in September.

The president added that the Turkey was creating the demilitarized zone but the complexity of this task did not allow fulfilling it yet.
