Syrian students to enjoy free admission to Russian Defense Ministry schools

The education in the Russian Defense Ministry schools will be free for students from Syrian schools. Syrians will study in Russian language together with Russian peers. They will have to pass a competition to get into a military school. Russia and Syria have signed the agreement on the education of minors. Its complete text is published on the website of Russian legal information.

According to the document, Syrians may enter the educational programs of basic general (1-5th school grades) and secondary general education (8-9th school grades). The text of the agreement states that students from Syrian schools will be taught according to the curriculum provided for Russian minors and under contracts between the Russia's and Syria's authorities.

The parties agreed that Syria will send the applications by January 15 and by March 15 Russia will notify the number of admitted under age students and provide a list of schools where they will study. The procedure will repeat annually.

Syria will select candidates for admission to military schools and conduct preliminary medical examinations. Syria will also hold entrance exams and detailed medical examinations but with the participation of Russian representatives.

The agreement states that the educational project confirms the desire of the two countries to strengthen friendly relations and is guided by the provisions of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
