First Baltic Theater International Festival captivates audience

02.11.2018

The first Theater Baltic International Festival of Russian Amateur and Professional Theaters has been held in Latvia on October 19 to 23. The festival supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation welcomed Russian theaters from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Russia.

During the five festival days, 13 performances of various authors and genres were shown and discussed. In addition, the festival hosted the conference entitled Russian Language and Culture through the Theater: The Use of Theater Technologies in the Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. PhD in Pedagogy Professor Anatoliy Berdichevsky moderated it.

Many spectators came to see the festival performances, especially in the evenings when the Riga House of Moscow was crowded. About 3000 spectators attended the festival, they actively discussed the performances they saw.

The jury's mail goal was not to determine the winners – they focused on support of the Russian language and Russian culture in Latvia, shaping a proper attitude to the Russian classics, to the origins of Russian culture as well as interest in modern Russian and foreign literature.

The jury members, noting the excellent organization of the festival, agreed that the level of the performances was very high - the amateur actors kept up there with professionals.

All participants were awarded with diplomas, memorable signs and souvenirs from the organizers.

The Moscow Department for External Economic and International Relations and the Russian Embassy supported the festival in the Republic of Latvia.
