Russian Biathlon Union: Russian sportsmen accused to strip RBU of its rights

The accusations made by Austrian law enforcement agencies against Russian biathletes are far-fetched, according to the deputy head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Sergey Chepikov. In his opinion, it is no coincidence that this attack unfolded on the eve of the meeting of the Executive Committee of International Biathlon Union (IBU), Izvestia newspaper reports. Now Russia's chances to regain its position in international biathlon have become much slimmer, Chepikov added.

The IBU Executive Committee is to review the restoration of the RBU rights on December 15.

Russia’s Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov in his turn reminded that neither during the world championship last year nor after its completion Russian athletes have broken antidoping rules. They have successfully passed all the doping tests.

The minister added that specialists from the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the RBU and other organizations were clarifying the circumstances of the case. The Russian Embassy in Austria engaged trusted lawyers to investigate the situation.

Experts believe that the case may be politically motivated.

Former head coach of the Russian national team Alexander Kasperovich reminded that Alexander Loginov, one of the suspected athletes, was tested the most after disqualification and never tested positive for doping. Loginov himself said that the police suspected biathletes of blood transfusion frauds and called it "complete nonsense."
