War and Peace, as well as the work of two Russian geniuses - the writer Leo Tolstoy and director Sergei Bondarchuk, who put the epic novel on the screen, - will be the topic of the first Tolstoy literary readings, organized the Russian Society of Antalya. The event is timed to the 180th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy, the society reports on its Facebook page.
According to the organizers, the perception of War and Peace among many compatriots is distorted by school interpretation. Those who were not lucky with a literature teacher, recall the painful study of the voluminous novel, full of formalism and clichés. Tolstoy readings are called to return freshness of perception of the novel recognized as one of the best literary works of world literature.
During the event, participants will discuss the novel itself and two film adaptations: the Soviet one, made by Sergey Bondarchuk, and the Hollywood one. The organizers of the readings selected the most successful and illustrative fragments of both screenings. According to the authors of the evening program, the creators of the American film are passionate about the plot, while Bondarchuk conveys the spirit of the Tolstoy’s novel.
According to the representatives of the Russian society of Antalya, War and Peace amazes by Lev Tolstoy’s ability to describe exquisite women and brave men, forcing readers to admire them. And the brilliantly conveyed beauty of Russian nature, winter and traditions made the whole world fall in love with them.
