Russian figure skater named best young athlete of in Europe in winter sports

Two-time world champion among juniors, 14-year-old Russian figure skater Alexandra Trusova has been recognized by experts of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) as the best young athlete of the year in winter sports in Europe. The decision was announced during the seminar, which was held in Vienna. Trusova will receive 15 thousand euros for her victory, TASS reports. 

Alexandra Trusova was recognized as the best among five young champions, their names were announced earlier. Snowboarder Annika Sofi Morgan from Germany, Austrian alpin skier Magdalena Egger, Slovak short trek speed skater Petra Rusnakova and Hungarian short trek player Attila Talabos also fought for the victory. The winner was determined during the voting.

Trusova confessed her love for figure skating on social networks and thanked her parents for helping to achieve the dream. According to the athlete, she is very pleased that her achievements have been appreciated by both figure skating enthusiasts and professionals.

The Russian figure skater has two gold medals of the junior world champions, a victory in the Grand Prix among juniors and twice won the title of champion of Russia. Alexandra Trusova set two records of junior championships. Her debut in the adult category was also successful: she won a silver medal in the Russian championship.

Trusov gained world fame also thanks to her ability to land quadruple jumps. This element is currently performed by only three figure skaters in the world.
