The famous Spanish tenor Placido Domingo on Tuesday, June 25, performs in Russia, the St. Petersburg Diary newspaper reports. He will step on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater.

The residents and guests of Saint Petersburg will be able to hear the star of the world opera in Verdi's play Simon Boccanegra. Domingo will perform the main part. The place at the conductor's stand will be occupied by the artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev. The performance will be included in the program Stars of the White Nights festival.

One of the roles is played by Italian singer Ferruccio Furlanetto. He takes part in audio recordings of the world opera classics produced by the Mariinsky Theater. For example, Furlanetto recorded together with Gergiev an album with the music of Musorgsky.

The theater stressed that it was not the first time that Placido Domingo was participating in the festival. In the northern capital, he performed not only as a singer, but also as a conductor.

Note that the Stars of the White Nights festival started on May 22. This year it is held at the Mariinsky Theater for the twenty-seventh time and will continue for two months.

The festival program includes concerts dedicated to the Tchaikovsky competition. The laureates of the last competition - pianist Lukas Geniušas and cellist Alexander Buzlov -  will appear on the stage. They will be joined by the current contestants, the musicians of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.

During the festival, residents and guests of the northern capital will hear performances by musicians who entered the jury of the competition, and those who received the title of the winner of the competition earlier. Among them - Denis Matsuev, Daniel Trifonov, Luke Debarg and others. They will play with the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.
