The monument to marshal Georgy Zhukov has been installed in Mongolia, the website of the Government of the Irkutsk Region reports. The author of the bronze sculpture is Alexander Mironov. It was installed in the new somon (district) center - Khalkhin-Gol. Administrative buildings, a school, a kindergarten, a cultural center and a hospital are being built there.
The four meters high monument was built by experts from Irkutsk. The installation of the monument was discussed a year ago by the President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga and the Irkutsk Governor Sergey Levchenko. Their meeting took place as part of a series of Russian-Mongolian Initiative events.
The construction of the new Khalkhin Gol center should be completed in the near future. Its opening is timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet-Mongolian troops in the battle on the Khalkhin-Gol River, which will be celebrated on September 3. It was Zhukov who commanded the Soviet troops back then. The celebrations will be attended by Russian president Vladimir Putin.
