The Northern capital of Russia opened Visit Petersburg tourist information office in the Japanese capital. Its main task will be to popularize the tourist opportunities of St. Petersburg, TASS reports.

Now all the inhabitants of the Asian metropolis who want to visit St. Petersburg can find out about its sights and features and choose a direction of interest - educational, sports or gastronomic tourism. The office provides the answers to the most common questions that travelers have.

The Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg Evgeni Pankevich noted that the opening of the center was a logical result of the Cross Year of Russia and Japan. The city administration called Visit Petersburg the point of presence of the Northern capital in Japan. There is no doubt that in the future the office will affect the increase in mutual tourist flow between St. Petersburg and Tokyo and will also help to increase interest in the city and Russia in general in Asian countries.

The opening ceremony of the tourist center took place on October 24. It was attended by representatives of travel agencies, airlines, authorities, journalists, Russian diplomats and others. Over the past five years, the number of Japanese tourists in St. Petersburg has been increasing. In 2018, more than twenty-five thousand Japanese people visited the city.

Today, ten Visit Petersburg offices operate outside of Russia. The first began to operate in the Chinese capital. Visit Petersburg opened in Paris. Also, information centers have opened in New Delhi, Tehran, Taipei, Leipzig and other cities. This project is a public-private partnership. Budget funds are not provided for it.
