The Pushkin Library was solemnly opened in the building of the University of Cadiz. It is located at the Pushkin Institute, which has been working at the university for more than two years. The opening ceremony of the library was attended by Russian ambassador to Spain Yuri Korchagin, the rector of the university of Cadiz Francisco Piniela Corbacho, the vice-rector for international relations Rafael Jimenez Castaneda. The celebration was also attended by Enrique Kero Hervilla, the director of the Russian Center of the University of Granada, opened by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The initiator of the opening of the library was the Russian-Spanish University Center, one of the tasks of which is to develop and strengthen relations with Russia. Andreas Santana, the project’s inspector and head of the center, was awarded the Pushkin State Medal for his work.

The library fund includes about eight hundred volumes with works of Russian literature, which will be available for teachers, researchers and university students. The Russian ambassador expressed confidence that the work of the Pushkin Institute and the opening of the library would strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries and positively affect the popularization of the Russian language in Spain.

The Pushkin Institute, which became the Russian analogue of the world-famous Cervantes Institute, was opened in March, 2017. The Russian Language and Culture Center became a joint project of the Pyatigorsk State University and the University of Cadiz. Teachers of the Russian language are trained at the institute, holidays and cultural programs are also held there. In addition, the center is accredited to hold the official exam in Russian.
