Nizhny Novgorod chosen as New Year's capital of Russia in 2022

Nizhny Novgorod will become the Russian New Year's capital in 2022. This was reported by the governor of the region Gleb Nikitin, TASS reports. Next January, the city will be awarded the Crystal Snowflake, which is a rolling symbol of the All-Russian project.

On January 7, the relay race of the New Year’s capital of the country will move from Ryazan to Kaluga, and a year later - to Nizhny Novgorod, Gleb Nikitin said. This will be a gift to the city for the 800th anniversary, which Nizhny Novgorod will celebrate throughout 2021. The New Year’s Capital of Russia festival in the ancient city will cover the period from December 7, 2021 to January 7, 2022, it will complete a series of events dedicated to the anniversary.

At the moment, Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region are preparing to celebrate the 800th anniversary. The authorities plan to pay special attention to winter types of entertainment.

The New Year's Capital of Russia is a project of the Ministry of Culture aimed at the development of tourism. Each year the festive capital is selected as a result of the competition. Earlier, the status of the New Year’s capital was awarded to Kazan, Vologda, Vladimir, Sortavala, Tambov, Khanty-Mansiysk, Tula.
