160th anniversary of Anton Chekhov is celebrated in Russia

The anniversary of Anton Chekhov is celebrated in his hometown, Taganrog, according to the Vesti TV program. 160 years have passed since the birth of the writer, who is famous in Russia and all over the world.

A ten-day festival called Chekhov Yesterday, Today, Always begins today, January 21. Visitors will watch the most famous performances based on Chekhov’s plays, including The Seagull, The Cherry Orchard, and some of Chekhov's stories put on stage.

Scientists, literary scholars, historians and many others will come to Taganrog, where a scientific and practical forum devoted to various aspects of the writer's works will take place. Children will be invited to take part in an academic quiz. 

Reading Chekhov Together will become the main event of the Chekhov festival. It is scheduled for January 29, when the whole world will celebrate the anniversary of the Russian writer. Everyone can choose their favorite work by Chekhov, read it on camera, and then post it on social networks. The organizers have already received more than a hundred applications from various Russian regions.
