Next week, the Russian sailing ships Kruzenshtern, Pallada and Sedov will begin a memorial race dedicated to the anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica. They will be launched on February 21 in the southern Atlantic Ocean, TASS reports.

Yesterday, Kruzenshtern and Pallada departed from the Argentine port to the meeting point with Sedov. The latter, in its turn, is moving there from Uruguayan Montevideo. On February 20, the three sailing boats will meet and conduct joint maneuvering. The race will end on February 23, then all the ships will follow their course.

Russkiy Mir reported that the sailing by Russian sailboats is also timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The expedition called “Sails of the World” will last for about a year, ships will cover almost one hundred thousand miles, more than six hundred cadets of Russian and foreign universities will take part in the expedition.

The expedition, unique to the Russian sailing fleet, started in November, when the Pallada sailing ship set sail from Vladivostok.
