The Tsiolkovsky Film Festival starts today, April 9, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. The film forum dedicated to films and programs on the space theme will be held online.

It was planned that this year the forum will be hosted by Kaluga, known worldwide as the cradle of space exploration thanks to a local native, scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. But, unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic and measures to prevent its development prevented the implementation of these plans. Therefore, competitive screenings and the announcement of the festival laureates will be held online on the more.tv. platform

The festival organizers received more than 1,000 applications for participation. They were sent from 80 different countries.

The winners in the categories of feature films, documentaries and television programs will be named on April 12. The best technical achievements and the best special effects will be also noted by the jury.

The best director will receive an award that bears the name of Sergey Korolev, the first space rocket engineer. The jury will also note the best student work. Roscosmos Corporation will also award its own prize. An honorary prize of the President of the Tsiolkovsky Film Festival will also be awarded. This position is taken by the famous producer, director and actor Igor Ugolnikov.
