Russian scientists have developed an ultrafast router that can transmit data in the 6G standard, the Izvestia newspaper reports. The novelty was created at ITMO University. Experts assure that when transmitting information over short distances using this router, the speed can increase by two to three times.

In Russia, networks of the third and fourth generation are currently widespread with a maximum data transfer rate of up to one gigabit per second. In a 5G network, a high-speed “ceiling” can turn out to be 20 gigabits per second. Russian experts proposed the option of transferring equipment to the high-frequency terahertz range, for which they designed a new router with a data transfer speed of thousands of gigabits per second.

Experts note that a lot of time will pass before the practical implementation of the technology and many non-trivial tasks have to be solved. So far the issues of 5G implementation are on the agenda, and the promising network of the sixth generation is just beginning to be discussed. Nevertheless, the task of implementing such networks will become relevant over time due to the overload of the previous communication channels.

The developers suggest that industrial designs of new transmission stations will appear in a few years.
