'Whaler Boy" wins award at Chinese Film Festival

The Whaler Boy, directed by the Russian film director Philip Yuriev, won the Roberto Rossellini award at the Pingyao International Film Festival, China. The prize was awarded for the best directorial debut in a foreign language movie, Kultura TV channel reports.

Films from China, Japan, Serbia and Israel also received festival awards.

Philip Yuriev was previously noted for the same film by the jury of the Venice Film Festival. 

The filming took place in Chukotka, its main character is a hunter who decides to change his life after being introduced to the Internet. The production of the film took more than 7 years, the leading roles were played by non-professional actors. The film has been successfully shown at several international and leading Russian film festivals.
