The Moscow tram was recognized as the most developing system in the world, according to the website of the mayor of Moscow. It received an award in the corresponding category of the Global Light Rail Awards. Every year it recognizes the best tramway systems in different cities around the world. The Moscow tram received an award of this level for the first time. Its competitors were tram systems from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and other countries.

The capital's administration congratulated everyone who works in the tram system on the achievement. Residents of the city began to travel by tram at the end of the 19th century. Despite the fact that the transport system has been around for almost a century and a half, it continues to develop. Over the years of its existence, the tram has become one of the bright and memorable symbols of the capital. In addition, the tram ranks second after the Moscow metro in terms of the number of passengers.

The jury noted the comfort of modern tram cars, new convenient stopping complexes, the use of environmentally friendly technologies and much more. In addition, the experts also liked the work on the preservation of historical traditions. Every year Moscow hosts tram parades that attract many spectators.

The length of city tram lines exceeds 400 kilometers. Before the pandemic, this type of public transport was used by 700,000 passengers every day.

Over the past decade, 70% of the city's tram park has been renewed. By 2023, only new generation vehicles will be working on the lines.
